Maison Interlude House (MIH) is proud to announce the results of its 2024 fundraising campaign. Never before has the community been so generous towards the organization, a message of support that goes straight to the heart of the entire team.

MIH unveiled the total amount raised at its December 6 fundraising evening, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women. Held at Alexandria's Bonnie Glen Pavilion, the event brought together 115 guests eager to support Maison Interlude. Last year's campaign generated a profit of $87,500. But exceeding that amount this year was no easy feat.

A Strike That Hurts

“The Canada Post strike has very little impact on ordinary people. But for charities, it's a catastrophe! This is the time of year when we receive the most donations from the public. But right now, we haven't received a cheque in a month. And to think that people will donate later is a bit delusional with the holiday season upon us. Non-profit organizations are the hardest hit by this strike,” explains Marie-Pierre D'Anjou, Community Engagement Coordinator, who invites people to support Interlude by visiting their website to make a donation: www.minterludeh.ca.

The organization would also like to thank its two honorary co-chairs: Ms. Lisa Deacon, Russell councillor, and Mr. Lachlan McDonald, mayor of South Glengarry. Their involvement and unwavering support for Interlude also contributed to the success of the 2024 campaign. The money raised will be used to finance the development of the 2nd Stage Housing project for women victims of violence.

Encouraging News from CMHC

“For almost five years, Interlude has been looking to build affordable housing that would be dedicated to its users following their stay in its emergency shelter. The lack of housing in the region forces women to stay too long in shelters. But a few weeks ago, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation announced new subsidies aimed specifically at this type of project. As our 2nd stage house is one of the most advanced projects in Canada, we hope to be selected and finally be able to break ground on our Embrun site,” concludes MIH Executive Director Muriel Lalonde.

Contest winners

Since late September, MIH employees and volunteers have been busy selling raffle tickets to friends and family to raise money for the organization. This campaign alone raised over $16,000. During the evening, the draw was made. And against all odds, the winners were in the room! Congratulations to Joanne Gratton and Tom Benke.

Thank you all for your support!
