HOW CAN INTERLUDE HELP ME?

Interlude is much more than a shelter. In fact, Interlude offers a full range of services to women, whether they are staying in the shelter or not. During the first meeting, a support worker assesses each woman’s needs and offers services that can meet those needs:

  • A 24/7 support line
Emergency shelter:

  • A safety plan adapted to my needs
  • Individual counselling and follow-up meetings
  • Information about my rights so I can make informed decisions
  • Referrals to various appropriate services and programs

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RECEIVE SERVICES FROM INTERLUDE ?

All our services are free, confidential and offered both in English and in French.



I AM AN IMMIGRANT WOMAN. CAN YOU HELP ME?

Yes. Just like all women who are 16 years old and over, you are welcome to use our services.

MY PARTNER DIDN'T HIT ME. CAN I STILL GET YOUR HELP?

Even though your partner never hit you, it is quite possible that you have suffered other forms of violence such as psychological, verbal, sexual, financial or spiritual abuse. You want to talk about it? Call us at 1-800-461-1842. We can help you.



I AM A LESBIAN. CAN I USE YOUR SERVICES?

I DON'T DATE TO LEAVE, I'M AFRAID TO DEPRIVE MY CHILDREN OF THEIR FATHER.

WHY AM I NOT ABLE TO LEAVE MY PARTNER?

Many reasons prevent a woman from leaving an abusive partner. Perhaps you're afraid, you may feel overwhelmed, and you worry about your financial situation. Although it is difficult to leave, it is important to realize that violence can escalate and has a cycle and that your safety and your children’s safety may be at risk. I DON'T WANT TO LIVE AT THE SHELTER, NUT I NEED HELP. CAN YOU HELP ME?

You do not need to stay in the Emergency shelter to access our services. You can access our Outreach services at any time. You can reach us by calling 1-800-461-1842.



CAN SOMEONE MEET ME IN MY TOWN OR DO I HAVE TO TRAVEL TO OBTAIN YOUR SERVICES?

The Outreach Services of Interlude offers you the possibility to meet a counsellor in one of our satellite offices throughout the counties of Prescott-Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. The volunteers of the project “Hand in Hand” can provide you with transportation in order for you to go to your appointments. Call us at 1-800-461-1842.  We can help you.



I AM A PERSON WITH A DISABILITY. ARE YOUR SERVICES ACCESSIBLE FOR ME?

I HAVE NO CHILDREN. AM I STILL ELIGIBLE FOR YOUR SERVICES?

MY EX-PARTNER IS VIOLENT WITH ME. CAN I USE YOUR SERVICES EVEN THOUGH I HAVE A NEW PARTNER?

Yes. You can use our services whether you live alone, with an abusive partner or another partner. Interlude recognizes that women are more at risk after a separation and that the harassment can go on even after ending an abusive relationship.

IF I LIVE AT THE SHELTER AT INTERLUDE, CAN I STILL CONTINUE TO WORK?

Of course. You can keep your routine. We will help you to develop of a safety plan, which will enable you to attend to your daily activities.



HOW LONG CAN I STAY AT INTERLUDE?

The length of time is different for each woman. It will be determined according to your needs.

CAN I BRING MY PETS WITH ME AT THE SHELTER?

Unfortunately, for reasons of health and safety, it will be impossible for you to bring your pet at the shelter. Only one exception: a guide dog!



IF I LIVE AT THE SHELTER, WILL MY CHILDREN BE ABLE TO GO TO SCHOOL?

Absolutely. Our children’s counsellor will help you organize transportation and registration of your child at a new school according to your needs and those of your children.



ARE SHELTERS ONLY FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED PHYSICAL VIOLENCE?

Shelters provide support to women experiencing all types of violence.



WHAT HAPPENS IF I KNOW SOMEONE ON THE SHELTER STAFF?

Shelter staff are discreet and professional. Everything you share with them is confidential, and you will never be judged for the situation you are in.



WHAT IF I AM NOT READY TO LEAVE MY PARTNER?

Shelters provide unconditional support to women, whatever choices they make. Staff will not pressure you to leave your partner, but will support you in your decisions while prioritizing your safety.



CAN I BRING MY CHILDREN WITH ME?

Yes, you can come with your children. In fact, your dependents can come with you. Dependents are people who live at the same address as you.



WHAT IF I AM A MEMBER OF THE 2SLGBTQ+ COMMUNITY?

Interlude offers services to all women aged 16 and over who identify as having experienced violence.

“Women” includes all individuals who identify as women.



DOES MY IMMIGRATION STATUS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Your immigration status does not matter. If you are a woman in Canada and you are experiencing violence, support is available and we are here to help you.



WILL YOU FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST MY PARTNER IF I COME TO THE SHELTER?

No. The only person who can take such steps is you. Our role is to help you better understand your situation of intimate partner violence and support you in regaining control over your life. We work in full transparency with survivors; we will never do anything without speaking to you about it and obtaining your consent.
